The Great Migration Safaris: Chasing the Endless Rhythm of the Plains

THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH

The Great Migration is not a single event, but a perpetual pilgrimage of over two million grazers across the Serengeti eco-system. Our Migration-specific itineraries are designed to place you at the epicenter of the action—whether that is the high-drama river crossings of the North or the fragile beauty of the calving season in the South. We don’t just book lodges; we track the herds to ensure your front-row seat to nature’s most raw spectacle.

The Migration Blueprint (Logistics)

  • Mobile Luxury: We utilize “Under Canvas” mobile camps that move seasonally to stay within striking distance of the herds.
  • The Fly-In Edge: To maximize time, we utilize bush-strip flights directly into the heart of the Serengeti, bypassing long dusty drives.
  • Expert Tracking: Our guides are “Migration Specialists” who understand the nuances of weather patterns and herd behavior to predict the best viewing points.

The Destination Highlights

  • The Mara River Crossings: Witness the life-and-death struggle as wildebeest brave crocodile-infested waters (July–October).
  • The Southern Calving Grounds: Experience the Ndutu plains transformed into a nursery, attracting high concentrations of big cats (January–March).
  • The Central Serengeti (Seronera): The “Cat Capital,” providing exceptional resident predator viewing year-round as the herds pass through.

The “Migration Pursuit” 8-Day Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival & The Gateway to the Wild: Arrive at Kilimanjaro (JRO). Private transfer to a coffee estate lodge in Arusha for a briefing with your Lead Guru.
  • Day 2: Fly-In to the Heart of the Herd: Board a morning flight to the Serengeti. Afternoon game drive in the specific sector where the herds are currently concentrated.
  • Day 3: Manyara to Central Serengeti: Ascend the Ngorongoro Highlands and descend into the Serengeti. Afternoon game drive in Seronera, the predator capital of the world.
  • Day 3 – 4: Following the Movement: Two full days of flexible tracking. Whether it’s the “Mega-Herds” on the move or a quiet moment with a cheetah on a kopje, your guide follows the action.
  • Day 5 – 6: The Drama of the Crossing (or Calving): Move to a second location within the Serengeti to witness a different phase of the cycle—such as the dramatic riverbanks or the vast green calving plains.
  • Day 7: The Ngorongoro Crater Finale: A scenic flight or drive to the Ngorongoro Highlands. Spend the afternoon taking in the views of the caldera before a final celebratory dinner.
  • Day 8: The Crater Floor & Departure: An early morning descent into the Crater for a “Big Five” safari. Afterward, fly back to Arusha for your onward international flight.
